The Remaining Primaries... It's Not a "Hobson's Choice"

I am reminded today of the old story of “Hobson’s Choice”…

Thomas Hobson was a 17th century livery owner with a large stable of horses.  Prospective customers were lured to his stable on the false impression that they would have an extensive selection of possible mounts from which to choose.  However, Hobson stipulated that a customer could only choose the horse in the stall closest to the barn door, thereby leaving the customer with only two options:  take that horse or go away empty handed.

I’m hearing similar rhetoric of late in the media and from Hillary supporters… That the game is over and Hillary will be the inevitable winner, so it’s time for Bernie Sanders supporters to fold up their tents and accept the “Hobson’s Choice” of getting Hillary Clinton or getting nothing.

Nothing could be further from the truth.  The message of the Bernie Sanders’ campaign has resonated with hundreds of thousands of voters of all colors and ages across America.

Tomorrow marks another huge milestone in Bernie’s campaign for justice.  Nobody, including the candidate, has illusions about the steep climb ahead.

But win, lose or draw in the remaining primaries, Bernie’s campaign has always been about more than Bernie himself.  The progressive issues that he has campaigned for remain valid and need to be heard at the 2016 Democratic National Convention and into the general election in the fall.  This is not to even mention the importance of all the House and Senate races that will come into play in the course of this election cycle.

The game is far from over.  Our voices still need to be heard.  As Ted Kennedy once famously said…“The work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die.”

It was in this spirit that we wrote the “The Song That Needs to be Sung.”  It is a song and video tribute about the need for vigilance, about the importance of committing to ideals, and about not giving up the cause.

We would appreciate you giving it a listen, if you haven’t yet had the chance.  We’ve been touched by the many positive responses we have received to date.  Please share, if you think it should be sung again and again… That’s the only way others will hear.  We hope it might inspire another person here or there…
