To all those stating Bernie is too old… yeah, I understand Bernie is old. But he does not act old. Biden acted old, really old. Bernie would mop the floor with Vance and if he were at the top of the ticket, he would wipe the floor with trump. It would not even be close and all the nation would see it. It is not age, but how you convey yourself in public. Biden had great intention and policies, but he could not articulate anything like Bernie can. Like I said Bernie resonates with young people. However, having said all of that, I suppose, age is a factor. That being the case, if not Bernie, I believe Pete Buttigieg or Elizabeth Warren would be excellent choices.
However unfortunate the reality of Biden stepping down is... I won’t say disastrous, because we haven’t lost the election yet, we need to come up with PLAN B real quick. I suggest at this point we go full Progressive and place Bernie Sanders on the ticket. I live in Utah and I remember when Bernie was running for President in 2016. The turnout at the primaries was incredible. I had never seen it like that before. The reason was that Bernie resonated with a lot of Utahns and thousands of people came out to vote for him in the primaries. If I remember correctly, Sanders won the primary in Utah over Hillary Clinton. Sanders also resonates with young people because he bespeaks to their issues. He resonates with those in Michigan (and anywhere else) who may throw their vote away because of Biden’s action/inactions in the Middle East. With Bernie’s calm sense of authority, logic and actually able to enunciate his words loudly and clearly, there is no question regarding his mental status. He speaks the unvarnished truth to power, which is what we need right now to counteract trump’s fascism. He has a great message for older folks with his support of expanding SSI and Medicare and he will push for Medicare for All. I have heard the argument that if Biden is forced out, there would be nobody else viable due to lack of media exposure and name recognition. That may be the case with Gretchen Whitmer, and to a lesser extent Gavin Newsome, But almost everyone knows who Bernie Sanders is and what he stands for. With Biden, I was frightened every time he appeared in public because a repeat of his debate performance would kill us. But with someone as articulate and sensible and honest as Bernie Sanders, I think he is or best bet. Imagine if he and Harris won? He can lead us and win just as well as any other potential candidate.
